Porn & sex trafficking — the victims are everywhere
Ferrell Foster writes at TexasBaptists.org that the commercial sex industry supplies a demand created by the consumption of pornography. The average age of exposure to pornography is 8 years old, and addiction to porn has made it more profitable than the National Football League, Major League Baseball, and the National Basketball Association — combined. Pornography constitutes 10 percent of the Internet’s content, and its creators use trafficking victims—many of them minors—in porn production.
The entire process creates victims — from those forced into porn production, to those who are addicted to viewing it, to those forced to service addicts wanting to act out what they have seen in the porn product. Christians cannot sit idly by. Why? Because Scripture teaches that every person is his or her brother’s keeper, and God hears the cry of the oppressed. Churches cannot escape their responsibility to God when it comes to responding to issues of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
